The 411Male Breast Reduction Surgery

Male Breast Reduction Chester, NJIt used to be that there was a stigma surrounding anyone who elected to get plastic surgery— especially men. However, according to a study published by The American Society for Plastic Surgeons, 40% of breast reduction surgeries done are done on males. Even though male breast reduction surgery may sound embarrassing, it can do wonders for your self-esteem and appearance. Let’s take a closer look at this surgery and why you may want to consider it.

What is a Male Breast Reduction?

A male breast reduction surgery is done on males— of most ages— who suffer from a condition called gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is a condition caused by hormones in men primarily either going through puberty or middle-aged and causes them to form fatty breast tissue. During a male breast reduction surgery, Dr. Larry Weinstein will remove this fatty breast tissue and any excess skin, to give you a flatter, more masculine looking chest in the process.

Why Is It Worth It?

For many boys who get gynecomastia during puberty, it should go away, and their chest should flatten by the time they turn 20. For middle-aged men, gynecomastia may also clear up on its own. If, however, your self-esteem is suffering because of gynecomastia and you just can’t seem to catch a break, then it is worth considering. Remember that your self-esteem is where a lot of your self-worth stems from, and so the better your self-esteem is, the happier you are likely to feel.

Male breast reduction surgery is the best way to get rid of excess fatty breast tissue and give you a flatter chest. If you want to learn more about this surgical procedure or schedule a consultation, contact our Chester office today at 908-879-2222.

Gynecomastia: How to Discuss This Surgery With Your Friends

Male Breast Reduction

Choosing to undergo any form of plastic surgery is a very personal decision to make and it is one that you may not be fully comfortable with disclosing to most people in your life. However, there may be some people, like family and friends, that you may want to discuss your surgery with in order to let them know about your thoughts, insecurities, and opinions. If you’re a male who wants to or has already schedule gynecomastia surgery, you might be a little bit worried about how to talk to your friends about this surgical procedure— if so, follow these three tips.

  • Explain the Surgery
If you tell your friends that you are having gynecomastia, they are probably going to give you a perplexed look like they have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Instead, explain the surgery to them in typical terms— it’s a male breast reduction surgery used to get rid of excess breast and fat tissues in the chest region.
  • Tell Them Your Feelings
Gynecomastia is a very personal procedure that many males feel self conscious about disclosing to very many people. When divulging this information to your friends, be sure to tell them your honest feeling and opinions. Are you nervous? Are you excited? Are you embarrassed? By disclosing your emotions, you can help your frIends know how to best be there for you and offer you support.
  • Explain Your Decision
The decision to undergo any form of plastic surgery is a big deal. When telling your friends about your decision to undergo gynecomastia, explain to them how you landed upon your decision. For instance, are you self conscious to be seen without your shirt on? Did you recently lose a bunch of weight but still have excess breast fat and tissues? By explaining your decision to your friends, they can better understand the procedure and why it’s of significant value to you.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

When the thought of plastic surgery comes to mind, most people associate it with women— breast implants, nose jobs, and Botox. However, although not as common as women undergoing plastic surgery, men can still undergo many forms of plastic surgery, including but not limited to, male breast reduction surgery.

What Is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
Male Breast ReductionSimilar to female breast reduction surgery, male breast reduction surgery is the surgical process of removing excess fat and breast tissue around the breast area in order to give men a more chiseled and flat appearance. During this procedure, patients will be under anesthesia the entire time and so they will not feel a thing. However, during the recovery process, the patient will likely be required to wear either some form of compression sleeve around their breast region or a thick gauze bandage. During recovery, patients will also be prohibited from excercise, any sort of heavy lifting or activities that may cause strain on their breast region.

Why Breast Reduction Surgery for Men?
Although not recognized by many as common, a large population of men suffer from oversized breasts that they just can’t get rid of. Either attributed to sudden weight gain/weight loss, or the use of male enhancement supplements for weight training, many males suffer from overly large breasts which cause them to feel ashamed and embarrassed.

Will there be scarring?

Male breast reduction surgery is nothing to be ashamed of. And although the thought of friends and significant others learning about this surgery might be a bit embarrassing, you won’t have to divulge it to them unless you want. Due to the location of the surgical incisions— typically under the armpit— scarring is very minimal and hard to spot even with your shirt off.

New Jersey Male Breast Reduction: Feel Great with Your Shirt Off!

GynecomastiaThis question is for the gentlemen out there — Are you confident about taking your shirt off in public or are you embarrassed about your man boobs? If you are uncomfortable with your man boobs you should know that they are medically referred to as gynecomastia and you do have options.  At the Weinstein Plastic Surgery Center, you can undergo New Jersey male breast reduction to help get rid of those enlarged breasts which are tearing down your confidence.

Negative Psychological Impact
Why bother with male breast reduction? Apart from actually not looking good with the extra sagging breasts, a recent study published in the April issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, came out with the following conclusion:

“Gynecomastia has a significant negative impact on primarily the psychosocial well-being of affected adolescent patients, specifically in regard to social functioning, mental health, and self-esteem. Psychosocial impact was not affected by graded severity of disease. Health care providers and patients should be aware of the psychosocial impairments associated with gynecomastia and consider early treatment for adolescents suffering from this condition, regardless of severity.”

Male Breast Reduction Techniques in New Jersey
You may be an ideal candidate for male breast reduction if you have excess glandular tissues and/or too much localized fat. It is interesting to note that gynecomastia could either present itself unilaterally (one breasts) or bilaterally (both breasts).

There are basically 3 common male breast reduction techniques used today:
1. Liposuction alone to remove excess fat
2. Liposuction with removal of your breast gland
3. Liposuction with removal of your breast gland and excess skin

The incisions made during the surgery are very tiny thus no need to worry about visible scarring. The procedure itself takes around 2 to 3 hours and the results are, by and large, long lasting. However, keep in mind that you need to maintain stable weight to maintain the results.  You also need to monitor your intake of prescription medications such as steroids.
