What are gummy bear breast implants?

If you’ve been considering a breast augmentation for larger, fuller breasts, then you already know about saline and silicone gel implants. But have you heard about the popular implant type called gummy bear implants? Here are some things you should know about gummy bear implants.

Gummy bear breast implants maintain their shape, even when the shell ruptures. One of the reasons why gummy bear implants are so popular is that they are more cohesive than regular silicone gel implants. The higher viscosity or thicker consistency of this gel is what gives this implant its “gummy bear” name. If it’s split in half, the gel stays in place, with no drip or mess.

Regular silicone gel implants can leak, but you wouldn’t know it unless you were having imaging tests such a mammogram done. If a saline implant leaks, you will know right away because the implant will “deflate” and the salt water or saline solution will be absorbed by the body.

They are designed to be a teardrop shape. This shape of the gummy bear breast implant mimics the natural breast shape, meaning it is more tapered at the top and has more projection at the bottom to give you a more natural look and feel.

The placement of gummy bear implants requires a longer incision. Like regular silicone gel implants, these implants are pre-filled, so there’s little flexibility when it comes to inserting it into place. Saline implants start out as empty shells that are filled once they are placed within the breast pocket, which means a smaller incision can be made for insertion.

Breast augmentation can be life-altering for so many women. It’s ideal for women who believe their breasts are too small, to restore youth and volume in breasts that have “deflated” after pregnancy, hormonal changes or significant weight loss, or to make breasts more symmetrical if one breast is smaller than the other. Revitalize tired-looking eyes with eyelid surgery

Our eyes are one of the first areas to show our age. As we age, skin starts to lose its elasticity, and skin on the upper eyelid can appear droopy and sometimes block vision, and puffy bags and wrinkles under the eyes can make us look tired. Eyelid surgery is a popular procedure to help wake up tired-looking eyes.

What makes this a popular surgery is the fact that you can get upper and lower eyelid procedures done at the same time. Procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation in the Chester Surgery Center, an accredited outpatient surgery center, or at Morristown Medical Center. Rarely does it require an inpatient stay.

For upper eyelid surgery, incisions are made along the natural crease of your eyelids so that scarring will be hidden once your eyelids have healed. Excess skin is removed and fat and muscle are removed or repositioned as you don’t want to remove too much fat and make the eyes appear hollowed.

For lower eyelid surgery, incision lines are just below the lash line. Fat pads that make the eyes look puffy are removed, and muscle and remaining fat are repositioned. Excess skin and muscle are trimmed and closed with fine sutures. Scars from both upper and lower eyelid surgery will appear pink for several months but eventually fade and become hidden by the natural creases of your eyes.

Another reason why this surgery is popular is the recovery period. While your eyes will feel tight or sore for the first few days after surgery, most pain and discomfort can be controlled with over-the-counter medications. Stitches are removed only a few days up to a week after surgery, when the swelling and bruising start to subside. You should be able to return to work a week to 10 days after surgery.

Results from eyelid surgery can last several years if you take good care and complete all follow-up instructions. You’ll need to wear special sunglasses and sunblock to protect your eyelids from the sun as they may be more sensitive to sunlight.

Eyelid surgery can help you restore a more “awake,” youthful look to your face, improving your confidence and self-image. For a consultation, call (908) 879-2222.

Common questions about nose surgery

Rhinoplasty New JerseyNose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is a popular plastic surgery procedure, with nearly 220,000 performed each year in the United States. If you’re unhappy with the size, shape or function of your nose, you may have thought about nose surgery. Here are some frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty:

What are good reasons to have a rhinoplasty? The appearance of the natural nose, sustaining a sports injury or accident that affected the nose, or even structural problems with the nose that affect your sleep and quality of life are why people seek this surgical procedure.

What is done during the surgery? The procedure takes about 1-2 hours. Incisions are made at the base of nose or inside nostrils. The bone and cartilage are sculpted into the desired shape. If nostrils are too wide, small wedges of skin are removed at the base to bright the nostrils closer together. Humps are removed with a chisel, nasal bones brought together to form a more narrow bridge. Cartilage may be trimmed to reshape the tip of the nose. The septum can be trimmed to improve the angle between the upper lip and nose. After everything is stitched up, a splint is placed to help the nose maintain the new shape as you heal.

What is recovery like? Recovery from rhinoplasty can be uncomfortable but not too painful. The Initially after surgery, your nose will be tender, your face will feel puffy and you may have a headache, but all can be controlled by pain medicine. Swelling and bruising around your eyes will be the worst for the first three days. After 1-2 weeks, dressings, stitches and splints will be removed. A smaller splint will be applied to further protect the nose for the next few weeks.

When will I be able to go back to work? Most patients are up and moving in two days. You can return to sedentary work after a week or so. Avoid strenuous activity for three weeks. You will need to avoid rubbing or hitting your nose and being gentle when you wash your face or wear makeup.

Our 3D imaging system can show you what the final results will look like so you can determine what’s best for you. Contact our office today at (908) 879-2222 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Weinstein and learn more about nose surgery.

How Botox and dermal fillers can help you achieve a more youthful appearance

Cosmetic injectables are increasingly popular non-surgical treatments that can restore lost volume to the face, smooth lines, and wrinkles, soften creases and enhance facial contours. Here is some more information about injectables that help rejuvenate and enhance your natural beauty.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin

There are two different types of wrinkles – dynamic and static. Static is continuously visible wrinkles that are treated with dermal fillers. Dynamic wrinkles form due to muscle contractions under the skin caused by facial movements such as smiling, furrowing the brow and squinting and are best treated with injectables including Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. All three are biological toxins that have been transformed into therapeutic agents used to treat crow’s feet, anger lines, lip lines and more. It takes about three days to fully work, with results lasting three to six months.

Radiesse

FDA-approved to treat moderate-to-severe static wrinkles, folds, and creases around the nose and mouth, Radiesse is a go-to treatment Dr. Weinstein has been using for more than 25 years. Composed of microspheres made of calcium hydroxylapatite in a water-based gel, Radiesse stimulates the production of collagen when it’s injected into lines and wrinkles to add volume. The treatment only takes about 15 minutes to perform, with immediate results lasting up to a year.

Restylane

Using a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin, Restylane is an FDA-approved treatment used to add volume and fullness to the face to correct facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds. It’s also effective in improving lipstick lines, which is the area below the nose and above the upper lip, the outer corners of the mouth and marionette lines, which is the area that extends from the corners of the mouth to the jawline.

Juvederm, Bolotero, and Voluma

Also using hyaluronic acid, fillers such as Juvederm are injected around the mouth to reduce wrinkles and soften deep folds, restoring facial contours for a more youthful appearance. Juvederm Voluma is great for adding volume to the cheek area. Juvederm and Bolotero can also be used to restore fuller lips.

Dermal fillers can be used in combination with Botox to help you achieve the youthful appearance you desire. If you’d like to learn about all the non-surgical ways to improve your appearance, call (908) 879-2222 today for a consultation.

7 things you need to know about buttock and outer-thigh lifts

Aging, significant weight loss, and even genetics can cause the buttocks and thighs to sag. Often a healthy diet and exercise program can’t tighten, firm and contour this area as well as lift procedures. Here are seven things you should know about buttock and outer-thigh lifts.

Ideal candidates are in good health. You should also avoid smoking and have realistic expectations about outcomes from the procedure.

A buttock lift and outer-thigh lift are often performed together. Although the procedures can be done separately, patients often find the buttocks and thighs have the same issues.

The incisions are made in places that scars can be easily hidden. The buttock lift incision is made across the top of the buttocks from one hip bone to the other, low enough to be concealed by underwear or a bikini. For the outer-thigh lift, the incision is made in the groin area. Though they will be visible, the scars will fade over time.

Liposuction may be performed. During the procedures, excess skin and fat are removed. Support sutures are placed deep within the underlying tissue, while skin is then redraped around the new contours. Incisions are closed with sutures. Patients are usually required to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and speed up the healing process.

The lift procedures are typically performed on an outpatient basis. The lift is done under general anesthesia. Most patients can leave after the effects of the anesthesia have worn off, while some patients may have to stay overnight.

Swelling, soreness and bruising can last for up to a month. This is typical for recovery, but pain can be controlled with medication. Most people can return to work and regular, non-strenuous activities after about two weeks, but must avoid strenuous activities for four weeks or longer.

They are not weight-loss procedures. This is performed only on those who are not significantly overweight. After the procedures, the buttocks and outer thighs have trimmer contours, and the skin is tighter and smoother. Surgical results are long-lasting.

If you want to learn more about buttock and outer-thigh lifts to improve the contour of your lower body and give it a more youthful appearance, call our office at (908) 879-2222 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Weinstein.

5 common reasons women get breast augmentation

Larry Weinstein MD FACSEveryone who has ever considered breast augmentation has her own deeply personal reasons for doing so. Research shows that women often experience a huge boost in confidence following the life-changing procedure. With more than 300,000 surgeries performed in the United States each year, breast augmentation surgery continues to be the top cosmetic procedure.

Here are some common reasons why women go under the knife for larger, fuller breasts:

  1. You’ve lost a lot of weight or just finished nursing. Breasts often droop or get smaller after pregnancy and nursing or after you’ve lost significant weight not related to childbirth. Breast augmentation with or without lift would be ideal to boost shape and volume and help you achieve the look you desire.
  2. Your breasts aren’t the same size. So many things can affect breast symmetry. Trauma, puberty and hormonal changes can affect the size or volume of a woman’s breasts, causing one to be larger than the other.
  3. You believe your breasts are too small. Macromastia describes the post-pubertal underdevelopment of a woman’s breast tissue. There’s no true definition of this medical condition as the definition of “small” varies with each person. Breast implants can help improve confidence and self-image for women who perceive their breasts to be too small.
  4. You’ve had mastectomy surgery. As part of their cancer treatment, many women opt for breast reconstruction surgery following a mastectomy or double mastectomy. This is typically a two-stage surgery. During the first procedure, the surgeon places a tissue expander under the skin and slowly fills it with saline over time to help ready the chest tissue for the implant several months after the mastectomy, which is the second stage of reconstruction surgery.
  5. You want to look younger. With age often comes sagging, and breasts appear smaller. Breast augmentation with a lift can help give you a more youthful look.

Breast augmentation surgery can help you gain more confidence and boost self-esteem. But it’s important to do your research and decide to do this surgery for you – no one else. If you’re ready to discuss getting larger, fuller breasts in the New Year, call (908) 879-2222 for a comprehensive consultation.
