Hand Me Downs: How to Take Better Care of Your Hands

Fillers Chester, NJIf you grew up in a large family or one without a lot of financial freedom, you were likely dealt your fair share of hand me downs; from soccer cleats to pajamas. However, as an adult, the only hand me downs you now have to worry about are your genetics and your literal hands. From adding more volume to them to get rid of sunspots, this article will discuss a few ways you can take better care of your hands. Read on to learn more.

Add More Volume

Radiesse isn’t just a filler used to restore volume to your face. In fact, Dr. Larry Weinstein can use it to add volume to your hands. As you age, you start to lose collagen and fat on your hands which make them look older and more worn down than they are. With Radiesse, however, Dr. Larry Weinstein can temporarily give you back the volume in your hands.

Wear Sunscreen

You know that you should never head to the pool or beach without slathering on a thick layer of sunscreen, but did you know that you should be wearing sunscreen on your hands every day? If you think about it, your hand are constantly exposed to the sun— even when you’re doing things like driving or walking to your car. Try to get into the habit of applying a thin layer of sunscreen on your hands after you wash them.

Get Rid of Sunspots

If you have dark spots on your hands, those are sunspots which are as the name indicates caused from too much exposure to the sun. Luckily, with laser therapy, we can target the pigment in your sunspots and help you get rid of them in the process.

Take better care of your hands with the treatments listed above. If you would like to learn more about how you can take better care of the skin on your hands, contact Dr. Larry Weinstein to schedule a consultation today!

3 Desk Exercises to Try for Hand Pain

Hand Surgery Chester, New JerseyWhether you have arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome, hand pain can make everyday tasks like typing, writing, or even opening and close a door to become painful. To help you ease that pain, we encourage our patients to try some hand exercises. By strengthening the joints in hand and taking pressure off of your tendons, hand exercises can give you almost instant relief— plus you can do them from the comfort of your desk at work. Read on to learn more about three exercises you can try on your own.

Stress Ball

They may have handed them out at your last work conference, and you threw it away thinking you’d never use it again, but stress balls do serve a purpose (other than swag). Using either a stress ball or a small, soft ball, wrap your fingers around it and make a fist. Then, slowly pulse the ball using the muscles in your hand. You may notice that your hand is sore at first but after a few days of repeating this exercise, you should find some relief.

Wrist Roll

You may not realize it, but a lot of the tension in your hands may be coming from your wrists. To help ease the tension in your wrists, rotate them from side-to-side and then in a complete circular motion— this will help loosen up stiff joints and break up any lactic acid in the process.

Finger Pulls

Taking one hand, grab the fingers on your other hand and gently pull them back toward your wrist. If you feel a lot of pain or tension when you do this exercise, try to ease a little deeper into it every time.

Repeating these exercises a few times a day, every day can help give you a lot of relief from hand pain or joint discomfort. If you would like to learn more about hand pain or surgery, contact Dr. Larry Weinstein today to schedule an appointment!
