Don’t Exercise

If you were to keep your hand sedentary during your entire workout, can you imagine how impossible it would be? Even if you were doing a leg workout. This is why we tell all of our patients to avoid any sort of exercise or strenuous activities for at least a couple of weeks after surgery, because it’s impossible to workout without moving your arms. By giving your arms a break, they will have enough time to heal on their own without getting irritated by exercise.

Keep Arms Bandaged

No, bandages and compression sleeves may not be the sexist thing you have ever worn, but they are one of the best things that you can wear while you’re recovering. Why? Because they will help reduce swelling and keep your incision intact while they are healing so that you don’t get an infection.

Clean Your Drain

Depending on how your surgery went, we may place a drain in your arms to help get rid of excess fluid after surgery. Although a drain may be a little bit irritating, it’s important that you keep it in at all times. Additionally, we also tell our patients to make sure that they clean their drain as frequently as possible so that it doesn’t get dirty or grow bacteria.
