How to Properly Communicate With Your Plastic Surgeon

It can be easy to walk into any store and get persuaded into buying the latest toy or the latest fragrance, however when it comes to something a bit more serious, like your facial appearance, it’s important to not be persuaded into doing anything that you’re just not certain about. However, because plastic surgeons can’t read minds (hard to imagine) it’s important to strongly communicate to them what kind of results you are looking for. Read on to learn more.

One of the best ways to communicate with your plastic surgeon about what you want is by showing them pictures. For instance, if you are going in for a rhinoplasty, find a bunch of images of noses that you like and see if your doctor can match it— that way both you and your doctor feel confident regarding what the outcome will look like.weinstein1

Discuss Your Problem Areas

If for some reason you just aren’t entirely sure of what you want, communicate with your surgeon the problem areas you have. For instance, you have an abundance of stomach fat or you want larger, fuller looking breasts— whatever it is, be sure to point out all of the problem areas you have— that way, your surgeon can go to work with fixing those areas.

Talk About the Outcome

As one of the best communication tools, it’s important to discuss what kind of outcome you are looking for with getting this surgery done. For instance, perhaps you want larger, fuller looking breasts or you want a subtle nose job that not even your grandmother would be able to notice. Communicate these things in detail to your plastic surgeon.

By following the above three tips, you can properly communicate with your plastic surgeon and get the best results possible. To learn more about plastic surgery or to schedule an appointment, contact our office today!

How to Know When It’s Time for New Breast Implants

Breast implants are the most popular plastic surgery option that patients choose to undergo. Not only can you lift and tighten your breasts but you can get a fuller look as well. If you already have breast implants and are wondering when and if they need to be redone, read this article to learn more about specific signs and symptoms to look for.

The Average Time-Frame
Breast implants typically last anywhere from 10-15 years and need to be replaced sooner if things like a rupture has occurred or if massive amounts of scar tissue have started to build up around the actual implant.

What Type of Implants Do You Have?

breast implantsSilicone Implants
When the breast implants are older, they will often times get a leak or hole in the actual implant— causing silicone to leak into your body and the implants themselves to deflate. If you have silicone implants, you will likely not know right away when you need to have your breast implants redone. Because silicone is a thicker substance, it takes longer for it to leak into your body and could even take a month until you notice that you have a problem. Some people in the past were concerned about the safety implications of silicone implants popping, however, new technology for silicone implants has ensured that the silicone will in fact be absorbed by your body. The look of a deflated implant is very obvious and you will want to get in to see your plastic surgeon as soon as possible.

Saline Implants
The great thing about saline implants is that you will know right away if your implant has a leak or has popped. Because saline implants are made out of salt water, if they get a hole in them they are immediately absorbed by the body. Another great thing about saline implants is that they can’t cause any harm to your body if they rupture.

As a rule of thumb, it’s advisable to get an x-ray conducted on your breast implants after you reach the 10 year mark— this will help your doctor determine if and when you might need to have your implants redone.

Push Present Galore: The Perks of a Mommy Makeover

Ten to twenty years ago, the only thing that a women would get for giving birth to a baby was the gratification that they gave someone new life. However, with more and more pressure from society and other soon-to-be mommies, came the concept of a push present. What is a push present exactly? A push present is a gift that the husband or significant other gives the mother of their child in order to show gratitude for giving birth to their child. With things like fine jewelry and lavish beach vacations topping the list, it can be hard to know just what to give your baby mama as a push present. If you’ve been racking your brain trying to decide what to give her, why not consider a mommy makeover? Read on to learn more about mommy makeovers.

Get Her Body Back
Mommy MakeoverAlthough pregnancy and motherhood are a privilege and a joy for women, these joys can also wreak havoc on a woman’s body. As part of a mommy makeover, you can help give her her body back through either a tummy tuck, breast augmentation surgery, liposuction, or a combination of all three. And in order to not sound insensitive about the whole subject matter, be sure to let her know that you love her the way that she is but know that she’s happier when she is her best physcial self.

Depending on whether your significant other delivered your baby vaginally or via c-section will help your plastic surgeon decide how long she needs to wait until she goes under the knife. Also, your plastic surgeon will have to take into consideration things like breastfeeding. If your doctor recommends that she wait a few months before getting surgery, make sure to reassure her and let her know that she will have her body back fairly shortly.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

When the thought of plastic surgery comes to mind, most people associate it with women— breast implants, nose jobs, and Botox. However, although not as common as women undergoing plastic surgery, men can still undergo many forms of plastic surgery, including but not limited to, male breast reduction surgery.

What Is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
Male Breast ReductionSimilar to female breast reduction surgery, male breast reduction surgery is the surgical process of removing excess fat and breast tissue around the breast area in order to give men a more chiseled and flat appearance. During this procedure, patients will be under anesthesia the entire time and so they will not feel a thing. However, during the recovery process, the patient will likely be required to wear either some form of compression sleeve around their breast region or a thick gauze bandage. During recovery, patients will also be prohibited from excercise, any sort of heavy lifting or activities that may cause strain on their breast region.

Why Breast Reduction Surgery for Men?
Although not recognized by many as common, a large population of men suffer from oversized breasts that they just can’t get rid of. Either attributed to sudden weight gain/weight loss, or the use of male enhancement supplements for weight training, many males suffer from overly large breasts which cause them to feel ashamed and embarrassed.

Will there be scarring?

Male breast reduction surgery is nothing to be ashamed of. And although the thought of friends and significant others learning about this surgery might be a bit embarrassing, you won’t have to divulge it to them unless you want. Due to the location of the surgical incisions— typically under the armpit— scarring is very minimal and hard to spot even with your shirt off.

Treatment Options for Burn Care

If you are a burn victim, you understand just how emotional everyday can be to wake up to your scars. Not only are they a positive symbol that you made it through the fire alive, but they are also painful reminders of how your life changed almost instantly. If you have severe burn scars and would like to seek medical attention to get rid of them, read on to learn more.

burn careTreatment
Depending on how severe your scars are, the location of your scars, and how many there are will all be determining factors for what type of burn care treatment will be best for you. From skin grafting to tissue expanding, there are several options for both you and your doctor to pick from to help deliver you with the best results possible.

  • Skin Grafting
Skin grafting is the procedure in which skin will be taken from one portion of the body (usually not visible with regular clothing) and then transplanted to another portion of the body. Once the skin has been removed from its initial site, it will then be transplanted to its final resting place by using medial dressing and a few stitches.
  • Tissue Expanding
Tissue expansion is a more unique and complex procedure that allows your body to produce more of your natural skin. During this procedure, an instrument known as a “balloon expander” will be inserted underneath your skin near the location of the burn. Similar to how a woman’s body expands during pregnancy, this balloon will mimic that same process as it is slowly filled with a saline solution over time— causing the skin to expand and grow. Once enough skin has been grown, it will then be used to help repair the burn site.

Although there are other options available to treat burn scars, these are two of the most common types that are used and are fairly popular among patients.

How To Offer Your Breasts the Support They Need

If you have recently undergone breast augmentation surgery, congratulations! As a life altering surgery that will help to enhance your life and your appearance, breast enhancement surgery is a big step in helping you feel more like you. After you have fully recovered from your procedure, it’s important to offer your breasts the support they need all day long. Read on to learn more.

Breast ProceduresWorkout Bras
If you used to be able to get away with working out in your regular bra, kiss those days goodbye. Workout bras are designed to offer your breasts the support they need in order to not cause any extra strain on your breast tissue. When shopping for a workout bra, make sure that when you are doing things like jogging in place or jumping up and down that your breasts stay fairly stationary. If you notice that your breasts are moving a lot and don’t feel very supported, then it’s time to try a different workout bra. Although you may feel like your breasts are being smashed down, this added support will make sure that you can workout more comfortably without any added strain on your breasts.

Supported Bra
Although it would be nice to show up to the office without having to wear a bra, it simply is not professional or healthy for your breasts. Your new breasts need to feel lifted and supported all day long. When shopping for a bra to wear under your clothes every day, look for one that has the right amount of underwire to keep your breasts lifted, while making sure the bra cup itself is structured enough to hold your breasts in place throughout the day.

Sleep Bra
If you’re like most women the first thing you do when you get home is immediately take off your bra in order to unwind from a long day of work. Unless you are experiencing any sort of pain or discomfort around your breasts during your sleep, then you really don’t have to worry about sleeping in a bra at all. If you feel like you could use a little added support but don’t want to wear a bra to bed, try opting for a camisole that has a built-in bra in it— this will offer you a little bit of support without having to wear an actual bra to bed.

Tummy Tucks

“107, 108, 109, 110.” If you are doing hundreds of sit-ups everyday but still aren’t getting the abdominal results that you want, then it might be time to consider doing something a bit more outside of the box such as abdominoplasty or a tummy tuck.

Do to things such as age, having babies, or extreme weight loss, the area around your abdomen might become loose and saggy in appearance, leaving you with every excuse to never wear a bikini again. However, by having a tummy tuck, you can get a tighter and flatter stomach without having to spend countless more nights in front of the TV doing those pesky abdominal crunches.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

tummy tuckTummy tucks or abdominoplasty, is the surgical process in which excess fat and skin will be removed around your abdominal area, leaving you with a more taut and younger looking belly. During the 5-6 hour long procedure you will be under anesthesia and will likely be required to spend the night at the hospital in order to properly recover and be monitored after the surgery.

What is Recovery Time Like?
After surgery, you can expect to have some pain and swelling around the surgical site but that should subside with a few days to a week. Once you are out of surgery and are starting to recover, your doctor will place a thick bandage around your middle in order to make sure that you properly heal without straining any muscles. Your doctor will instruct you on how often to change the bandage and how to properly wrap it around your abdomen. Your overall recovery time will depend on how your surgery went but you can expect to be out of work for a couple of weeks while your body fully heals and gets back to feeling like normal.

When Will I See Results?
Some people claim to see results right away but due to the large amount of swelling that will be present, you likely won’t be able to fully see and enjoy your results for a couple of weeks. Don’t be discouraged by having to wear a bandage for a few weeks and know that you will soon be able to show off your flat stomach.

A More Natural Look and Appearance: Picking the Right Breast Implant

We’ve all heard of the different breast implant options and heard horror stories of silicone breast implants exploding in the mid ninenties and causing serious infections in women everywhere. However, with medical advancement, silicone implants are safer than ever. And with a new gummy-bear breast implant on the market, there is now a third option for you to choose from.

Silicone
Filled with silicone gel, silicone implants are known to both look and feel more natural than saline implants. As an FDA approved solution to fuller breasts, silicone implants can either be surgically placed under or over the breast muscle, depending on the preference of both you and your surgeon.

Breast implantsAlthough silicone implants are safe and shouldn’t have any leaks, it is still recommended that you visit your doctor on a fairly regular basis to make sure that the implants are still in a healthy and working order.

Saline
Also, as an FDA approved type of implant, saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater. Also placed either either under or over the breast muscle, saline implants will give you the appearance of larger and fuller looking breasts.

The best thing about saline implants is that if they were to explode or leak, the body would naturally be able to expell of the saline solution and you wouldn’t have to be worried about any sort of contamination or illness.

Gummy Bear
Yes, gummy bears are all of our favorite childhood snack, but they aren’t just a candy. As the newest available implant option on the market, gummy bear implants have a thicker silicone gel that is thought to be less likely to break and more durable— thus giving it the name of “gummy bear.”

Instead of being round like other implants, gummy bear implants are shaped to give a fuller appearance at the bottom of the implant. However, if somehow moved, these implants can give you awkward looking breasts.

With these three options of breast implants to choose from and with the help of your doctor, you can have fuller and perkier breasts in no time.
