Plastic Surgery: Make Miracles Happen!

Humans have this almost insatiable desire to conquer and transform their surroundings. Miraculous inventions and technologies make this possible every day. Perhaps the last frontier to conquer is the one closest to home: our own bodies. Although these technologies have been in process for centuries, most of them are just now coming to fruition. With every passing day, some miraculous invention comes to light and helpsplastic surgery all of us enjoy the developments of the medical field.

One of these seemingly-miraculous innovations is plastic surgery. It continuously grows safer and cheaper—in other words, more accessible to the common man (as opposed to just celebrities). And Dr. Weinstein can help give you the special, new look you’ve always wanted.

The Details of Plastic Surgery

Although plastic surgery is wide field and can be concerned with the medical correction of some body part, more often than not it is merely an aesthetic and cosmetic surgery. In these surgical procedures, the principles of plastic surgery are applied to reconstruct various features, mainly for the purpose of enhancing your personal beauty.

The major plastic surgery treatments include:
* Facial rejuvenation.
* Full body procedures, such as tummy tucks.
* Breast augmentation.
* Facelift through fillers.
* The removal of excess skin.
* Liposuction.

With most of these surgeries, the doctor will make cuts to inter or extract tissue and fat. The size and depth of these incisions depends on the type of procedure and amount of work being done. Similarly, the complete recovery period also varies from procedure to procedure, patient to patient, depending upon your body type and the work you received. However, no matter the surgery, the post-surgical care and maintenance is also crucial to the success of your plastic surgery.

One of the techniques available here at our office is skin grafting. Used in a variety of plastic surgeries, skin grafting works specifically with the epithelial cells of your skin to give you better results. No matter what specific techniques are used, however, you will work with our surgeon to develop a specific goal and treatment plan.

Are you Ready for Breast Implants?

Have you been considering getting breast implants and wondering whether or not you are ready for them? It is important to measure whether you are getting the breast implants because you want to or because you think that this is what society wants. This is why you need to examine why you really want breast implants.

For many women, breast implants are a way to make them look as they feel on the inside. Other women look at breast implants as a way to look more attractive. There are even women who get breast implants as a way to look more feminine for their job or career. The idea as to why you want breast implants is something that has to be examined thoroughly.

Along with the reasons why you are getting breast implants, the surgeon also needs to examine what your expectations are for these breast implants. Many women have expectations that are not possible with a single breast implant surgery. Instead, it may take a few different surgeries to achieve results, and patients need to understand this.Breast Implants in New Jersey

Last of all, look at what your options are with breast implants and which is going to be best for you. If you take the time to look at your breast implant options, and then make a decision based on research, you are showing that you are making this decision in a way that is mature. This maturity level shows that you did your homework and are ready to make this decision about breast implants with a clear mind and level head.

So are you ready for breast implants? If you feel as though you are, then you need to make an appointment to talk with us to determine if the ideals you have about breast implants are something that we can make happen. Being prepared for this surgery is something that is going to make the recovery time and your happiness with the surgery even better.

Here’s Why Liposuction is the Most Versatile Plastic Surgery Procedure

Recent figures by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed that liposuction was the most popular surgical cosmetic procedure in 2013, surpassing breast augmentation, which reigned supreme in 2012. Dr. Weinstein’s vast experience, technical finesse, and aesthetic sense have made him one of the most sought after liposuction surgeons in New Jersey and neighboring areas.

Liposuction’s popularity is largely due to its versatile nature in getting rid of stubborn pockets of fat. In fact, this body contouring procedure can be performed on almost all parts of the body. The following body parts/problem areas respond particularly well to liposuction:

  • Double Chin – This is quite common among those who are overweight. Liposuction can significantly reduce excess fat in the chin and neck areas.
  • Bat Wings – The appearance of excess fat and sagging skin in the upper arms is often a result of massive weight loss. In addition to liposuction, flabby arms can also be addressed with an arm lift.
  • Buffalo Hump – Fat deposits located at the neck and upper back may be an adverse effect of steroid medications or overproduction of steroids by the body.
  • Belly Pooch/Muffin Top – Even women who are within their ideal body weight can have excess pockets of fat in the lower abdomen.
  • Love Handles – This refers to pockets of fat that accumulate on the sides of the abdomen. Love handles even plague the slimmest of women.
  • Saddlebags – This refers to excess fat in the upper thighs.
  • Kissing Thighs – You may have heard of the most recent obsession of women all over the world — the thigh gap. Unfortunately, not everyone can achieve that space in between the thighs through diet and exercise. Good thing liposuction on the inner thighs can help women appear sexy in their shorts, skinny jeans, and miniskirts.

At our practice, we consider liposuction more than just the removal of excess fat. Dr. Weinstein treats the procedure as an artistic process requiring more than just knowledge of the techniques. Dealing with Swelling After a Tummy Tuck

If there’s one constant following a tummy tuck, it would have to be swelling, medically known as edema. At our practice in New Jersey, we inform patients who are about to have a tummy tuck that swelling should be expected post-surgery. In addition, we offer the following tips to help deal with swelling and make their tummy tuck recovery easier, quicker, and more comfortable.

Tummy Tuck in New JerseyTake steps to make sure that are you sufficiently hydrated throughout recovery.

One might think that drinking a lot of water will only exacerbate swelling. However, keep in mind that the body is made up mostly of fluids and sufficient hydration is important to flush out toxins. In addition, sufficient hydration is also important to promote regular bowel movements and consequently reduce abdominal swelling.

Pay attention to your sodium intake.

Sodium makes your body retain water. Thus, it may be best to limit your intake of sodium-rich foods. You shouldn’t stop using salt altogether, as it also plays an important role in normal body functions. Moderation is the key. A good rule of thumb when reducing sodium intake is to avoid highly processed foods that have large amounts of salt. Focus instead on consuming foods from whole sources.

Move but don’t overdo it.

Physical activity can either reduce or exacerbate swelling. Although you need to take it easy during the first few weeks following surgery, you should not be totally glued to your bed the entire day. Inactivity will increase your risk of complications such as blood clot formation and may only intensify swelling. On the other hand, it is equally important to avoid the following activities, which can lead to complications:

  • Heavy lifting
  • Bending over
  • Jogging
  • Sex
  • Reaching above your head

Wear compression garments as instructed.

The pressure in compression garments helps reduce swelling and improves blood circulation. Improved blood circulation aids in faster wound healing and helps minimize scarring.

Top 4 Liposuction Myths — Busted!

image-smartlipoBeing one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures, word about liposuction continuously spreads like wildfire from every potential patient to another. Because of this, it could be so easy for information to turn into misinformation. Here are some of the most common liposuction myths that you still might believe to be true.

Liposuction resolves health conditions.

Many believe that because liposuction removes unwanted fat from the body, it can also rid one of their current medical conditions, particularly of heart disease. Although it can provide minor changes in the triglycerides and cholesterol levels of an individual, the procedure is not entirely a treatment for such diseases.

Liposuction is only meant for women.

This is a common misconception, knowing that most patients who consider liposuction are females. There might be more women who want to achieve a more attractive body contour, which is why they usually prefer liposuction than men. However, it is totally possible for men to have excess fat in their body and wish to remove stubborn fat through liposuction as well.

Liposuction can eliminate obesity.

Before even considering the procedure, every potential patient must know that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. While the surgery is done to remove significant fat tissue in particular parts of the body, its main purpose is not to stop a person from being obese. Although this is so, a liposuction is often a good motivation for a patient to start maintaining an ideal weight through proper dieting and exercise.

Liposuction results are permanent.

This assumption could be true, but only if the patient is determined to maintain the results. This can be possible by applying steady changes to one’s lifestyle through regular exercise and healthy dieting. However, if the patient fails to make certain lifestyle changes, there is a possibility for fat to accumulate in other parts of the body eventually.

Your First Aid for Burns

Whether it is minor or severe, getting burned anywhere in the body can be a panicky moment for us. However, it is most important to keep our mind as clear as water immediately following the incident. After acquiring such trauma, first aid must be applied.

After making sure that the source of burning has already been stopped, keep the damage to its minimum by following these surefire (no pun intended) tips:

For Minor Burns

  • Clean the wound gently using lukewarm water.
  • Any constricting articles in the affected area, such as rings, bracelets, or any other pieces of jewelry, must be removed as they can cause swelling or inflammation in the skin.
  • If you have such at home, topical antibiotic ointments such as Neosporin or Bacitracin can help alleviate the symptoms and prevent the damage from worsening. These medications can be purchased over the counter.
  • If you think the burn may be deeper and could be a second to third in degree, seek medical care immediately.

For Major Burns

  • Once you have assessed and categorized it as a second or third degree burn, call the proper authorities.
  • Wrap the affected area in a clean cloth or sheet. NEVER apply cold water to the burnt area. Doing such could cause an extreme drop of body temperature called hypothermia.

For electrical burns, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. Meanwhile, in the case of chemical burns, identifying the damaging chemical is a must. The Poison Control Center can help you throughout the situation. Although some chemical burns can only be treated using home wound remedies, some may cause more serious injuries that promote possible limb-threatening conditions.

Open Up the Windows to Your Soul with Blepharoplasty

eyelid6They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but what if those windows are closed because of your “hooded” eyes? Don’t give other people the impression that you are tired or sleepy because of your droopy eyelids. Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that will help those lids open up and make your eyes look more vibrant.

Yes, an eyelid surgery can hold promising benefits, but is it something that you should be considering? There are various reasons for you to consider this plastic surgical procedure.

  • If you appear tired or exhausted to others because of your puffy eyes, then it could be time to consider having those eyelids altered. Hooded eyes can generally make you appear tired and stressed — two of the last things you want to have as an impression from others.
  • If the drooping of your eyelids has already affected the way and quality that you see things, then an eyelid surgery might be worthy to be considered. Blepharoplasty cannot only address aesthetic concerns, but this physical problem as well.
  • If there is severe wrinkling in one’s lower eyelids, a blepharoplasty can address the situation and make those peepers appear brighter.
  • If you are already fed up with the effects of aging on your face, particularly on the areas around your eyes, then a blepharoplasty can bring you positive results. Usually, this procedure is performed on our patients in New Jersey who are already 35 years old and above.
  • If you are bothered about the noticeable bags under your eyes, or irritated by the way your hooded eyes look and obscure your vision, an eyelid surgery can be done even among our younger patients.
  • If you have good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure, then you can expect to see good results from a blepharoplasty.

Early Otoplasty Can Make a Difference!

earsurg1In the world we live in today, it is unfortunate that society seeks perfection in every individual. Hollywood hotshots and celebrities on TV lead us to believe that there is such a thing, and when some people do not meet our ideals, it would be so easy for us to defame them. While adults may easily shrug the discrimination off, children find it hard to do so. This is why early otoplasty is important.

Addressing Projection of the Ears

Although it is not a physical defect or something that could affect our health, excessive projection in the ears is oftentimes considered an abnormality in the society we are in. Because of this, even mild protruding of the ears can greatly affect one’s perception of his physical appearance, leading to a reduction of self-image and self-esteem. Otoplasty is the surgical treatment to reduce ear projection, making ears look more pleasing.

Early Otoplasty Reaps Best Results

While otoplasty can be done both on adults and children, the young ones are able to benefit more from the procedure since they have softer cartilage which is more compliant to the treatment. Although an otoplasty is an elective procedure, which means that it is not actually required, parents and teachers of the child may notice a decline in the child’s self-worth, making them realize the importance of an ear correction procedure.

Improving a Child’s Quality of Life

Correcting prominent ears will not only improve the physical structure of the ears, but it will also improve the overall quality of life of a child who is often teased because of his or her appearance. Peer ridicule is common during childhood, and oftentimes it worsens once a child has an “abnormality” in his or her body. Otoplasty at a young age cannot only “normalize” the child’s ears, but it is also a way of providing your child a future he or she could face with more confidence.
